Ian Bustin' Out of a 0-3 Month Onesie

Check out our slim and trim boy wedged into a onesie sized for 0-3 month olds. It shows off his guns!

Filming Ian from my Computer.

Today, Ian went to the zoo for the first time! When he came home, Ian had an afternoon snack of cottage cheese and then we filmed him from my computer. Here's a short clip.

Ian and Uncle Russell

Uncle Russell is visiting us. We haven't seen him since our wedding! We weren't sure if Ian and Uncle Russell would get along. Ian isn't much of a people person, as many of you know.

Nevertheless, Uncle Russell was able to coax our brooding introvert out of his shell. The two of them got along like a house on fire.

Spring Cleaning

Now that Ian is more than nine months old, it's time he started pulling his weight (about 18 lbs). Here's Ian putting a polish on our living room window. Oops! You missed a spot.

Does this remind you of the Seven Dwarf's song "Whistle While You Work"? Yes, our lad knows how to make hard labor look like FUN.

"Hey boss man! You'll never break my spirit!"

Moments later...

"Daddy, can I please take a bathroom break? ...................THANK YOU."

Ian has enough serotonin to kill a clown.

Here's our happy little guy--our little Leprechaun. Now tell me this lad doesn't put you in a good mood, just looking at him.

It's all fun and games until...

I've told most of you that Ian is getting to be a bit rough-and-tumble in his manner of play. Let me rephrase that. Ian is a tiny hurt factory. He himself seems to be nigh invulnerable, but he can unleash a flurry of kicky feet, slappy hands, and pokey fingers that can bring stinging tears of pain to the most stoic of us.

Here's what I mean:

1. Oh, it starts innocently enough.
2. Then, without warning, a lightning-fast palm to the forehead.
3. With his opponent stunned and woozy, Ian has a bit of fun. Here's Ian's version of "got yer nose."
4. A fishhook to the lower lip draws the match to a quick finish. Sulking, his opponent whimpers, "I hink hy hip is hleeding."

Ian At Work

I've really been looking forward to the time when Ian can sit and play. He is really a serious little man when he gets into his playing "zone", but so far he has only been able to really concentrate on his "work" when he's in the megasaucer. Ian can play in the megasaucer for an entire half-hour stretch. What is the megasaucer, you ask?

Observe:

1. Ian is focused and on-task.

2. Watch carefully. Reaching for the "Tiny Ginger Clown", Ian executes a "no-look" maneuver. His gaze is still directed at the "Keys of Frustration". This is multitasking at its finest.

3. Without losing a precious moment, Ian turns toward the "Tiny Ginger Clown", giving it his full attention. If he bashes the clown's head just so, he is rewarded with a tinny electronic rendition of "Frere Jacques".

4. His objective achieved, Ian returns his full focus to the "Keys of Frustration". One day they will surrender their secrets to him.

In a rare moment of rest, Ian wonders: as awesome as the Megasaucer is, how great will the Gigasaucer be? As a math teacher, I can state with confidence that it will be 1000 times as great.
